"Imagine all the people. Living life in peace... "
Imagine: John Lennon, Imagine
I have experienced several versions of this classic John Lennon song. I have heard Elton John cover this song and seen Live play this. R.E.M., Neil Young, even Bill Clinton. There is so much of a depth to the songs- which really sums up a lot of what the sixties were trying to tell the world: Love, not fear. Freedom, not rules.
I still have to say that there are no better versions than the original by John Lennon, God rest his soul. I don’t care what anyone says about Yoko Ono, the split of the Beatles or anything in between… the short time that he was with us he did amazing things and that should be the thing remembered.
I never heard this song until I was in college, and it was played at a funeral that I watched on television. It’s interesting that I don’t remember the funeral ceremony, but the song and the way it affected me- that I will never forget. I remember seeing the television cameras on the television of someone in another dorm across campus… and the entire walk home all I could think about was this song… I was so moved by the music… by the words.
Rest in Peace John… you didn’t live long- but you continue to reach out to the world even past your death. That is a legend!
*** Artist Notes ***
The only thing “hippie” that I had were these glasses I had gotten in Vegas. I wanted to capture the notion of day dreaming, looking up at the clouds in this shot.
Lyrics:
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
got a new tripod yesterday :'D
